Hi, just wanna ask what company is that hollow block factory that you’re talking about. We greatly need it for our feasibility study. If you have contact numbers of the company please give us information. Thank you very much!
Hi John – Generally, hollow block production is not done by big companies. It’s a backyard operation with 2 or 3 employees making hollow blocks. No other employees.
I was wondering what are the processes in making a hollow block, because we need the procedure for our investigatory project.
Hi Bob,
Just wondering what is the standard dimension of concrete hollow blocks in the philippines?
size 4” 180 quality for one cement. size 5” 160 and size 6” 140 procedure our in investigatory project..enjoy your venture
Hi Bob,
I wonder if GEM staffers can help those small-time entrepreneurs, like the pictured hollow-block (HB)makers, to form cooperatives. Certainly, a cooperative can have better bargaining power when purchasing bulk cement (an expensive ingredient for making HBs)as well as in pricing their products.
Make more economic-sense. Don’t you think?
Bob,there’s another Ramon in the site and it’s not me. But I’ll answer his question. AFAIR – Standards is as follows: (Thickness x Height x Length)6″x8″x16″ or 4″x8″x16″. But the actual sizes will 1/2 inch less for each dimension as allowance for finishing. Typically, CHB’s in the Philippines is of low quality. Heavily diluted with sand which you can’t even carry with it’s own weight. The specs called jackbuilt could be used, though it will be twice the cost of a normal CHB but this is what the strength of an actual CHB made to specs should be. Actual cost for both types is unknown to me.
Hi MindanaoanGyud – GEM tends to go for bigger projects. Maybe some Filipino Charity could do something like this?
Hi Ramon – Thanks for the help on that!
Oh thank you, guys for your help…
Ramon and Bob, I found one of the comments very informative. The information provided by Ramon regarding the dimension of the concrete hallow blocks in the Phlippines was a great help for me. I have a good picture about the length or width of a piece of land in the picture that somebody send to me by counting the CHBs piled along the fence and by doing the math. Thank you!
Hi Jun – I’m happy that you found the information that you needed!
thank you very much.
pls send me a view to start a hollow block making, thnks” pls i need a details form the begining, being a starter , please,,, thnk you vry much, the expenses, salary, transportation, etc, please, thnks
Hi Monina G Taningco – Please understand, I just took a picture of the place. I don’t know all the details that you are asking for.
hi bob, i am jing from one of the barangays of Bataraza in palawan, i wanted to venture on concrete hollow block making, actually i already started processing my legal papers from dti and bir so i could do the hollow block business legally.. as a beginner with no background on the venture i am going into, may i ask some help on the basics on making hollow blocks..? may i know how many blocks of size 4 i should make from a bag of cement please..some says i should make 40 some would say 45 some says it should be 50..i already tried making 50 blocks per bag of cement and we made it beside a river also just like the photo you posted here.. its on its 4th day drying in the site…may i ask your opinion on the strength of a block made from that 50-per-bag-of cement..? my worker said i should try throwing it so i know the strength, but i cant do it yet i am afraid it is still wet or something.. i still have so many questions on this matter but i would be very happy if you could extend your knowledge and your experience on my questions.. thank you and more power on your business.. hope to hear from you soon..
Hi jing – To be frank and honest, all I did was take a photo. I know nothing about the process.
thanks anyway bob.. anyone here who could spare me their knowledge on the matters i was asking..please..
to jing, hi. ^^
first of all, i dont quite know of the exact ratio or number of hollow blocks you should make per bag of cement to get the required strength you need.
my advice is that for every batch that you make, take note of the mix proportions and have some blocks tested for compressive strength. im sure you can find some facility somewhere near your area. that way you know how strong your blocks are. also dont forget that since hollow block is made of cement, it would need some time for curing for it to attain its max strength. in college we tested some hollow blocks in our school facility just to get the average strength of our local chb.
just my thought: hollow blocks are only intended to carry its own weight and the layers above it so it doesnt need to have high compressive strength. special mix is needed for hollow blocks designed for structural purposes.
^^
hello Bob,
I wonder how much does hallow blocks usually cost in Phils. I actually don’t have any idea since the price keep on changing all the time. Does they sell it per piece or dozen, if so what is common price. What about a sack of cement ? If you know pls let me know, I am very much thankful!
to jing,
im just like you who’s starting to venture on chb. i just wanna know if you’ve found the informations you need in making chb a quality one…if so, mind sharing it with me?
il have e colleague who knew its mixture proportions and he’s going to share to me this week. i’ll share with you once i have it..
thanks
may i know the procedure in making a hollow blocks??
Hi to all,
I can share something from my experience in hollow block making.
there are 2 methods of chb making.
1. manual labor with Module form.
2. chb machine manufacturing
A. Bob is right, usually 2 to 3 person can make chb for about 50 blocks to 70 per 8 hour working schedule.
B. Ratio of making depends on strength
a. using 1:15 ratio, which means 1 bag of cement and 15 measuring box of clean sand. In these, you can produce at least 20 to 25 blocks using both method, actual strength may vary from 600 to 700 psi.
b. using 1:20 ratio, which often used by manufacturers. You can produce at least 30 to 40, but I will not recommend this, if you will investigate this are the type of blocks for non structrural use, meaning you can use this for side fence.
C. Price depends on Material availability, quality, transport.
Thanks,
Neil
bag of cement today is 210 pesos here in manila
sand is per truckload of Elf type approximately 2.25 cu.m. cost 1,400 pesos in manila also.
neil
commercial hollow blocks here is 7.50 pesos
other contractors make their own because they comply with structural requirements of the Structural Engineers.
don’t know in other areas.
Just reading your post and did some computations, 25 blocks x 7.50/block = 187.50.
If the price for a bag of cement is 210.00 plus sand, then you are not making any money here so something is not right here.
1 bag of cement to 15 box or cubic foot of sand will give you a hundred 4″ CHB. That is how hollow block makers do it here in Albay. Albay sand is good for CHB as it comes from Mayon Volcano
jose according to your experienced in hollowblock making, the two methods.. the manual labor and machine manufacturing can produced the same amount of block.. in ratio of 1/15 that can produced of 20-25 blocks.. is that how many hours? how many piece of block can produce by that machine you talking about ? is that a single block or more per cycle? please let me know..its getting interesting about the topic.
Hi! I was able to talk to one of the people making concrete hollow blocks last week. He told me that they are making at least 90 CHB per bag of cement. According to him what is crucial in making these chb is the kind of sand, it should be very coarse. They sell them at 5.50/CHB. BTW, I am from Gen. Santos City. I hope this info helps. GOD bless!
Hello,
Where can I buy a manual labor with module form in the Philippines? I live here in Alaska, USA. I want to make my own CHB’s for my future home in the Philppines. Is there any ideas where to buy from?
Can anyone reply my questions please?
Thank you,
Chiel
Also, roughly how much is the cost for that product? $?
Thank you,
Chiel
Hi Chiel,
I have just read your inquiry, you can search for the manual module in you tube, where they are using this steel block to mold concrete hollow block. and you can buy it in Sorsogon. There are hardware stores here that provide name is Dee Store Sorsogon Hardware and lumber suppies. About the Machine, you can check also You Tube, there are lots of CHB Making machinery there to fill in your needs. (joseneil_fabicon@yahoo.com)
Hi Chiel,
Try “hollow block making” in You Tube, for the manual module, and “production of hollow blocks in the philippines” also in You Tube.
why does other selling it for 7.50 if they can only produce 40 blocks per bag and from computation u will use 1 bag of cement amounting to 210 and 0.54 cubicamounting to 232.2 there’s something should be rely correctly
To those who have any information regarding my querries, good afternoon.
May I ask if a 700 square meter lot is an area enough to set up a hollow block making business?
If so, then it leads to another question, do I really need to buy a delivery truck or do i have other options, and what are those?
Any reply will be higly appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi!
just wanna ask, what machine is to be use to test the strength of a hollow block?
i would like to put up a hollow block business, but i dont have any idea how much is the cost of the machine, what are the other materials i need, how much will be the inital capital (i have the place already). Is it a good business? Pls help. Thanks.
Hello Bob,
I would like to know the latest and standard price of the hollow block. I am planning build a house and want to know the prices of materials needed. pls. help. thank u.
Sir can you send me the diagram on how to making hollow blocks I badly need it for my feasibility study…. thanks
helo, my family and i are planning to have a business but i dont have idea what kind is it. since i am a civil engineer, i began to thing of hardware and lumber but this would start for a big capital until i came to think to start it in a small one. i hink CHB manufacturing is a good one. does anyone know how much will it cost to start the business, maybe ill start it for a thousand pieces in our backyard,
if you can measure your hollow block form, it is very easy to compute the price per chb, you can play with the prices from what range you could sell it..
volume of hollow block per piece=area top times height.. 1 bag of cement is equal to 0.0283 cubic meter or 1 cubic foot.. (by the way, i am from sultan kudarat, the price of cement per bag is 220 pesos, sand is 150 pesos per cubic meter, and in our place, usually, they are making 80 pcs of 4x4x8 chb’s per bag of cement, the thickness of the chb is approximately 2cm, and my computed volume of chb per piece is 3939 cubic centimeters or .003939 cubic meter..) if we will compute the volume of sand, we will assume that all cement parts wil fill the voids in the sand, meaning, the volume of the chb, is also equal to the volume of the sand, therefore, in 80 pcs of chb which has a volume of .003939 multiplied by 80 is equal to 0.31512 cubic meter, that is also the volume of sand used, in 1 bag of cement, if i will compute the amount that I used, 1 bag of cement is 220, in sand 0.31512 times 150 is equal to 47.268 pesos, the total amount that I used is 220 plus 47.268 = 267.268 pesos.. to compute the price per piece I used, we divide it by 80, 267.268 divide by 80 = 3.34 pesos or round up to 3.50 pesos.. to compute for the tracking, it will depend on the unit used to deliver, the distance to travel and the total chb ordered.. we are sellin it here by 6.50 pesos per chb.. and I am assuming that I will expend 1.50 pesos per piece for the tracking, so I have a profit of 1.50 pesos per chb.. tip, manufacture chb as much as possible each day, and always wet your chb to achieve a higher strength, if it is not well cured, it will lose approximately 40% of its strength..
how about the labor cost?
by the way our chb’s here are not that very hard, but it can carry its own weight.. tip, find a mold that has a smaller thickness to save materials in making chb..
oh, i almost forgot, the 1.50 tracking, the breakdown is .50 peso in delivering the chb, and the 1.00 peso is the amount we are giving to the hollowblocker.. he is also the one who is loading and unloading the chb in the truck to the costumer..
i have an excel format on how to compute srp for chb, email me at dorms_john_r@yahoo.com
In our place, 1 person makes 400+ pcs. chbs. from past 6 AM to past 6 PM. Distance from my CHB machine to drying area is around 10-15 meters. Distance from the piles of gravel/sand (actually, we”re not using those materials, we have alternative material called “palanas”) is around 10-15 meters to the mechanized mixer. One mixing of “palanas” contains 4 wheelbarrows of materials and can produce 40 chbs (not able to get the size yet but we call it 4 inches – in thickness) and less than a half bag of cement. The chb machines have the sizes for 4 inches, 5 inches, & 6 inches thickness chbs. The machines produce 3 pcs. at-a-time because they have 3 hollows that pop out altogether when molding is done.
One dumptruck of 18-20 cu. m. “palanas” costs from PhP3,000 – Php4,200 (depending on your location from the quarry site). Cement as of April 10, 2010 costs PhP203 – PhP215, the former price is from hardware stores along the main road; the latter from stores some kms. away from main road. I pay PhP0.70 centavos per 4 inches thickness chb produced at my backyard factory within the urban area; PhP1.00 for same size produced near the housing construction site (where “sari-sari” or variety stores and transportation are scarce, communication is difficult, and workers are far from their family).
My first sentence speaks of 1 chb machine operator at the urban area. Now, starting April 2010, I have 4 men at my factory near the housing construction site: 1 operator, 1 runner, 1 for the wheelbarrow and mixer, & 1 putting the mixed materials to the machine. We are targeting to produce 2,000 pcs. of 4″ chbs; however, their maximum output as of the moment is around 1,500 probably due to some conditions which the men are still adjusting to. Housing for them and their family is the obligation of the factory owner. When housing condition is good, production is high. Some chb factories have workers who start at 2AM and ends at around 3-4 PM. At this time, they start to pile the pcs. they produced. CHBs can be delivered the day after production. Our chbs are not that hard. Usually, ours were used for low-cost housing, of course, with a low budget. Imagine, producing more than 80 pcs. chbs for a bag of cement? To be able to survive, I have instructed my men to have the materials mixed well. This make it carry its own weight. Here’s our price: 4″ = PhP6.30, 5″ = PhP7.50, 6″ = PhP8.50-10.
I’m very thankful to the information given by markchb. May I know what is this material called palanas you used as an alternative to sand in making chb? Thanks a lot.
Hi,
I am april. I am presently working in a trading/imporation and exportation company and is looking for a local manufacturer of cement and hollow blocks. Could you please tell me what place(province) here in the Philippines that is near to manila, where i can find a manufacturer of these two products? I hope you can help me. Thanks a lot. If you know some manufacturers, you can email me at aprille_gurl@yahoo.com and
We have a automatic hydrolick block making factory, the equipment been bought from AME Austria.
Now we like to produce light weight insulating Hollow Blocks. what we should do? can you share your experience.
hi, i’d like to ask mark where he got the mixer and how much does it cost? thanks!
hi! I just want to know where i can buy a hollow block maker machine here in davao city and manual hollow block maker and how much is the price. Need help because i need to put fences in my 1T square meter using hollow blocks. anyone can help me to find is highly appreciated.thanks..
This is confusing.
First and foremost because different people use different stone sizes as measurement.
Next, because no-one one state how many kilo cement is in on bag.
Mr engr. john say that one bag of cement is 0,0283 CBM, or 28,3 liter.
One bag of Portland standard cement normally packed
would be 23,4 liter for a 25 kilo bag.
So either is the bag less packed, (Using of vacuum while packing,
or its not a 25 kilo bag used in this example.
I know that its possible to buy cement in Philippines in 40 Kg bags,
soo please……
Will someone please state the definitions and sizes of units.
Its not possible to compare the price of bananas and apples as if its the same.
hi there good day, i would like to know the production of hollow blocks and its profitability… because im doing an feasibility study about that… can you share it to me… i need help… thanks and god bless…
I’m work abroad for almost 16yrs now and im planning to go back home in the philippines for good. i’m are planning to put-up a chb bcoz. My location is in Candelaria, Zambales. Id like to know where to buy CHB machine and mixer and how much capital do i need to start this kind of business. Thank you so much.
Good day. As for the hollow blocks it should be with these dimension Length 199 to 201 mm, width 99 to 101 mm, thickness 79 to 81mm, the average compressive strength should be 57 N/ sqmm. rate of load will be 5kn/sec. in the philippines their is no guidance or minimum strength needed. their are lot of type of machines depending of the budget you have. from egg layer machines to semi automatic to fully automatic machines. ranging from 13million pesos to 400 million pesos depending on the type of requirement you want. from 20000 per 8 to 10 hour production to 60000 pcs. as on the cement-aggregates-ratio, as i said depending on the strength you need. in a mixer of 1.5 cubic meter the ratio will be 120kg dune sand, 1600kg (0-5mm) lime, 280kg OPC cement, plus water at around 100 plus liter. these will produce with the strength needed. you can other recipe to minimize the strength so that it will increase the profit of course. other materials also available like gabro. of course these is german made machines, other machine can cause you around 6 to 20 millions with option of semi to fully automatic.
In machines, their is option of course mix alone (hollow blocks 4 or 8 or 6 inches) or with face mix in producing interlocks such as Uni pavers of 60 or 80mm, rectangular shape, hexagonal shape, I shape. depending on the mould you purchase either on hess machineries or other supplier like Kobra, Rampf or otheir manufacturer. In purchasing semi or fully automatic their is curing chamber that can cure hollow blocks for 24 hours and can be sell after the curing time. if you need some details regarding data such as sizes, cement -aggregate-water ratio i would be happy to tell you.
I am from Zambales, and planning to set up backyard chb moulding machine. Where can I procure a second (cheap) hand chb machine for small scale? to be distributed to interested barangays.
Thanks and good day!
i would like to know how much is the ratio of porland cement to sand mixture in order for me to produce a 700psi load bearing concrete hollow blocks. please anyone who knows….thanks
I have read the comments on this page and am very interested on purchasing chb machine for load bearing is there any seller in the Philippines for these kinds of machine? kindly help me tnx
Hi Bob,
Are you selling hollow block making machine? If so could you please send me the details and the price. My small business in hollow block making is located in Kisante, Makilala Cotabato and using the manual. I am an OFW and planning to push these business and planning to purchase even only one machine first to increase our production. Actually I don’t have an intention to have this business, it’s only by accident. We are only planning to make a concrete fence for my small residential lot and instead of buying hollow block we opted to make our own hollow block in order to save money. Unfortunately the fence didn’t happen until now because a lot of people are buying the product and there are times that our production were not enough. I would be very grateful if you can have a time to answer my inquiries.
thanks and more power
Hi Henry – No, I don’t know anything about hollow block machines, other than having taken a picture of a hollow block plant at one time. Sorry I can’t help you.
can you tell me..? did you already buy a hollow block machine..? where from as i want one and how much did it cost..?
DID YOU GET TO KNOW WHERE YOU CAN BUY A HOLLOW BLOCK MACHINE..? CAN ANYNE TELL ME WHERE I CAN BUY IN THE SOUTH COTABAO REGION..?
Hello There!
Any idea about the mixing ratio of 5 inches CHB (How many sands, chocker) how many production in 1 sack cement/40kgs.
Thanks lot
The important thing you should consider is not how many HB in 1 sack cement/40kg. Its the strength of materials that one should consider. Quality against Quantity in order to make a good client relation. Client should decide on weak /poor HB against the strength of your HB.
hi.. i am interested on load bearing concrete hollow blocks. can someone help me? i want to know the design mix for 6 inches, 700 psi load bearing concrete hollow blocks. thank you for your response.
Hi guys, I’m planning to invest in a CHB machine. The type of hollow blocks would most likely be at least 700psi. I would like to know if you have any idea as to the ratio of cement and coarse sand? for instance, a 40kg bag of cement will be mixed with how many bags of sand or kg of sand? Would it be 40kg of cement is to 160kg of sand? that is my best estimate though.
Guys, most of your questions are just plain dumb or non-sense.. if you guys really want to venture as chb supplier or even other fields you’re not most familiar of, you can always go to any chb maker / supplier near you and ASK! pretend to be a buyer! ask questions you wana ask. Like how many pcs of chb per bag is their output. Prices of matls needed (cement, coarse sand, binder sand, etc.) Dont just flood here and ask like you’re running out of time. Roam around the city, ask people regarding where to find the supplier like hardware, builders, engineers, contractors, etc. See? it’s all common sense. If you want to have the knowledge on technical details like load bearing capacity, etc you can simply ASK the people I mentioned above.
Here in Davao, most chb maker pays a peso per piece of chb made. Usually they make around 100+pcs of chb 4″ per bag of PORTLAND Cement 40kg. Deduct the cost of cement, labor, delivery, sand and you get your net profit per bag. Before starting consider first the MARKET, is it for lowcost housing & the like or for high strength chb required by builders.
I am a licensed CE and Im here to help, so PLEASE move your butts, grow some common sense and ask around in your place! Holla
Finally a voice of reason is heard
i will need the services of a CE when we transition and I kind of like your style. If possible it would be great to get your contact info for the future thanks George Noland
I plan on moving to Samal in 3 yrs with my daughter and am investigating options on building her a home
My curiosity led me to this site and I was amused with the comments They resembled a Nigerian internet scam
Hi, can you tell me where in the southern cotobao area can we buy a hollow block machine…i can find plenty in manila but none in mindanao….? only one in davao and he is to expensive he wants 45k where as in manila they only 24k..?
Not only in Manila anymore You can call to this company there specialty is making building materials machinery (Block making machine, conveyors, mixers) even they will give free advice how to make good quality of blocks. And they deal also surplus machine that comes from Europe, Middle East. The contact nos. 082 295 3427, 0927 4100 882 MJG Electromechanical Sales & Services in Davao City.
Hi to all. This comment goes to all who endeavor to have a hollowblock making business here in the phil. Im from a thriving city in mindanao. My family runs the same business here in the city since 1986. We started small like any other business ventures. In the beginning we used the manual method of hollowblock making. We call it as “pal pal” method. In this method we make use of a molder which form the blocks as you press it with the mixture of sand, gravel and cement. Back in the days, construction was still a laid back industry’ customers were not strict as they are today esp foreign customers and project contractors. This pal pal method is enough to make a durable hollowblock. However as the construction industry evolve and customers become much quality-concious, the need for a more high tech machine is needed to take over the pal pal method of hollowblock making. Today, our company utilizes a vivbrating hollowblock machine. You can search the internet for further information about this techonlogy.
A vibrating machine can produce about 150 pcs chb no. 4 per hour depending on how fast your workers do the labor. Our ratio for the hollowblocks no. 4 is 1:65. 1 bag of cement produces about 65 to 90 hollowblocks. The number of chb produced may depend on several factors. Of course, the smaller number of chb produced per bag of cement, the stronger the hollowblocks. However, if you are producing it commercially, you need to computevhow much your overall expenses would be in order to decide how many hollowblocks to produce per bag of cement. Otherwise you will earn too small or nothing at all. The raw materials would include cement and sand and gravel only. Cement per bag now in the phil is somewhere between 215 to 230, while sand and gravel per 3cuubic meter truck is somewhere 1500 to 2200. Take note though that prices of cement and sand and gravel hugely depend on your location. In our city truckload of aggregates is worth at least 1800 while in our neighboring city its only 700 per truckload. In the neighboring city their chb is only 5 pesos per piece while here in our city the average price of chb is 11 pesos per piece. Therefore your output production per bag as well as your price depend on the things mentioned.
Fortunately we have our own quarry of aggregates and some heavy equipment and delivery trucks. This means that we could sell our concrete products at a much lower cost than our competitors. I would suggest if youre a beginner and you do have your own delivery truck or a minidumptruck, you go straight to the quarry to pick up the aggregates than have it delivered at your site. It would save you a lot of money. I hope this helps anyone who wish to venture in hollowblock making business. Ciao!
By the way, the overhead expenses you should include in your computation for pricing are the costs of: cement, electricity of youre using a machine, water, coarse sand and labor. Thats all. If your renting your place then include the rent per month. I wish you all well in this venture.
May I know the ratio of the concrete mix (cement:gravel:sand)
hi every one
the real question here is
how to make hallowblock 70pcs up to 90pcs..
what the exact number of sand=?? gravel=??
here in capiz the sand price is 360 per cubic and the gravel is 3000 per truck i dont know what exactly cubic in truck “tansya ko lng ho mga 10 or 9 cubic
the size of hb is 8″ tnx sana matulungan nio ako..
newbie e
To make 65 to 70 chb no. 4, you need to mix 3 wheelbarrows of mixed sand and gravel to one bag cement.
As i mentioned in my previous comment, the price of aggregates hugely depend on your location. For dumptrucks, it could load 10 to 12 cum. For minidumptrucks, it can load 2.5 to 3 cum of aggregates. When you are buying aggregates, make sure to check the sidings of the truck. Some trucks have low sidings and low sidings means less aggregates these trucks can load. If this is the case then better check with other suppliers and compare prices against the truck capacity.
Since you aredoing business you sure would like to get the best value for your money.
Ok mr. Kim tnx… can i make 80+ chb per bag of cement… because the price of HB here is 8.50?..
Im afraid your chb would be less stronger if you are going to produce 80 + pcs of chb no 8 in one bag of cement. What i do with ours is this: 65 pcs no. 4 per bag of cement and 55 pcs chb no 6 per bag of cement. the product will cure by itself in 3 to 4 days. The longer the better. By the way, im a girl =)
